Jimmy’s Iced Coffee is a hugely popular brand with a story that dates back to Australia in 2010, where a 27-year-old Jimmy was travelling with his future wife. It was there that Jimmy first tried Farmers Union iced coffee. With its refreshingly mild taste that was nothing like its super-sweet UK counterparts, it was love at first taste.
Upon returning to the UK Jim noticed that there were no stockists in the UK so decided he’d have a go at trying to make the product himself and went into business with his sister Suze. In the backroom of Suzie’s Bournemouth coffee shop they experimented with different ingredients until they had the perfect blend.
The initial funding came from their parents – a vote of confidence that cleared out their bank account but gave Jimmy and Suzie a real opportunity to make their business a success. Within five months of working for the company full-time, Jimmy and Suzie had launched their product in Selfridges. Product popularity started to snowball with launches in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and BP.
In October 2014, Jimmy and Suzie paid off the last of their parents’ investment. They’d gone from hand-wrapping cartons of Jimmy’s Iced Coffee in a bedsit to turning over almost £2 million by the end of that year. 2015 saw the release of Jimmy’s debut promotional rap video, Keep Your Chin Up, with a follow-up video released in 2016 called Who Got the Beans created with innovation consultancy Fearlessly Frank. And the brand goes from strength to strength. With Suzie managing the ever-growing team and Jimmy focusing on business growth, these two have clearly got the iced coffee market licked.
