Hari Ghotra is a professional Indian cook, teacher and author who started learning to cook at a very young age – she was around five years old when her parents first let her help in their kitchen at home.
Hari’s visits to friends and family in India, exploring local markets and restaurants, have always been a source of inspiration and, after starting out in marketing, Hari dipped her toe into the world of cooking by creating a series of cookery classes to fulfil her passion for authentic Indian cuisine and sharing her family knowledge.
Her classes were so popular that Hari branched out into supper clubs and pop-up restaurants and wondered about the possibility of turning this into a full-time business. After hearing about Hari weighing up the pro’s and con’s of doing this full time her partner Jeremy took matters into her own hands. On Christmas day, he presented her with her own website, branding and logo and said “Come on then, you’ve been talking about it for long enough so now go and do it.” And with the full support of her family behind her www.harighotra.co.uk was born.
Today Hari’s website, which receives over 50k hits per month, and YouTube channel, with over 500k views, have become the UK’s leading Indian recipe cookery destinations.
In between all of this, Hari trains as a professional chef at the Michelin starred Tamarind of Mayfair, training under Head Chef Peter Joseph and has been announced as the Executive Chef of the new Tamarind Kitchen – the first affordable fine dining Indian restaurant from Tamarind Collection – opening in Soho in 2017.
